What is Love?

The other day when I pondered about relationships I thought about how the majority of society views this relationship, how the media portrays it and how the viewers view it or understand what is being portrayed.

In our present society, or maybe not just now but it has always been like that where everything is seen as romantic and most believe romance is the epitome of it all, it leaves people loosing, neglecting and not taking care of other relationships in their life because they aren't as important as "romantic ones". Yes, each type of love has its feelings, admonitions, strengths and weakness but to me, they are all equally important.

Each type of relationship needs to be nurtured, appreciated and understood for what it is; "an important essence to life." something that could be said makes life even more worth living. And also yes, solitude in being at peace in being yourself and staying with yourself can be seen as a positive relationship but excessive solitude where even mingling with other peers becomes a problem leaves a vulnerability in the social health of such individuals and may be deemed "lonely".

So now we come to the question, "WHAT IS LOVE?" According to Merriam Webster, Love is a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.

There are several types of love; romantic, platonic, familial, self-love and many more but the base is what matters. This base of "strong emotions" is what leaves us to believe we love someone.

Most people when asked what they think is the most important type of love, their minds drift to romance leaving other types. When it comes to friendships, they often get neglected because some people think your friend doesn't need to understand you, doesn't need to keep you company, doesn't need to like you. But isn't friendship also a form of companionship?

Also, let's go a little deeper to the group of people who you didn't choose to be a part of, your family, what is family? Some can say people you share the same blood with, others may say, people who are your sworn family not necessarily blood relatives. Even this type of love often gets neglected, not living in the present and not being concerned with how they are, how they feel or even what they do as if romantic love is the only type of escape from it all.

When it comes to love, we have to be appreciative of the love we have regardless if it comes romantically or platonically and not prioritize one over the others.

So to me what is love? Love for me is a deep complex emotion that can be seen in different forms everyday, the love between a parent and a child, between siblings, between friends, between lovers, between co-workers, between pets and lots more, this list goes on and on even though we may not necessarily call it love, it is too.

Feel free to also express your views on love and your standing point. Thanks for reading!!!
